SASAS Methodology The SASAS 2013 sample consisted of 2 739 adults over the age of 16. In this sample, three explicit stratification variables are used, namely province, geography type and population group. The sample was weighted on the 2011 national census and is thus representative of the South African adult population. The SASAS ensures that the items are validated and translated into appropriate languages. The broader survey instrument includes social, cultural, economic, demographic, and geographic data1. The findings presented here are disaggregated by age, educational level and a living standard measure. Where appropriate, gender differences are also reported.
